"Second and final edition, a reissue of the first edition with a cancel title page. Born in Spain, Abendana, a member of the Sephardic community, was hakam (local rabbi) of the Spanish Portuguese Synagogue in London. He also pursued an academic career. He taught Hebrew at Cambridge University and went on to join the faculty of Magdalen College, Oxford. A prolific writer, he was England's authority on Jewish religion, culture and law. This reputation was due in part to his annual Oxford Almanack. In addition to the expected almanac topics, each issue contained information about Jewish customs, laws and other matters. The Discourses collect the Jewish-related material from his almanacs..."--Lawbook Exchange.
