- Summary:
- The collection consists of a microfilm copy of the correspondence of Aaron M. Sewell from 1862-1864. The correspondence consists of 35 letters of Sewell and 14 letters of his wife Louisa and other relatives. All of Sewell's letters were addressed to his wife, but some contained notes to his father-in-law, brother-in-law and other members of the family. Letters to him, other than those from his wife were from a soldier, P. R. Dorsett - or Dorset - and from his brother S. C. Sewell (Cicero). There is one letter from Burton Yeargon, a soldier in the Army of Northern Virginia, to his cousin Louisa. All of the letters, which cover the period May 3, 1862 through June 17, 1864, were written while he was in the Confederate Army. Topics discussed are health, crops, family, the economy, and religion, as well as military activities.
