- R.D. Cole Manufacturing Company, Newnan, Georgia, began in 1854 as Cole and Barnes, a saw mill. In 1877 the business moved to front the Atlanta and West Point Railroad. It produced saw-mills, corn mills, boilers, engines, and eventually became a manufacturer of steel, aluminum and alloy. The firm, which was bought out by Brown Steel Contractors, Inc. (Newnan, Ga.), was the second largest water tower manufacturer in the United States in the 1980's.
