In addition, production files include photographs of performances and production books created and used to plan the performance. Administrative records include documentation on Theater Emory's work within the university, annual reports, facilities planning, Friends of Theater Emory records, professional development, and season planning. - Biographical/Historical Note:
- Theater at Emory originated with the independent formation of the Emory Players performing group in 1928. While the group originally performed at off-campus venues, in 1952, the group's director, George Neeley, moved the Emory Players' performances to the Alumni Memorial building. In 1972, then-director Fergus Currie reorganized and renamed the group Theater Emory. Currie established a summer theater program and a regular annual schedule. In 1982, Theater Emory officially reorganized under the College of Arts and Sciences in conjunction with a theater studies major and other student performing groups to become the producing affiliate of Theater Studies within the Department of Theater and Dance at Emory University showcasing student actors as well as professional actors. Under the direction of Vincent Murphy, Theater Emory expanded, creating programs like the Playwriting Center as well as the Brave New Works series, as well as supporting student groups Ad Hoc, Ahana, and Starving Artists Productions.
