"This book celebrates the centenary of William Everson's birth by presenting a special edition of his poem 'The Alder'. This poem has been used by permission of Jude Everson. The lead eighteen-point Goudy Newstyle type used to print the poem belonged to Everson and was borrowed from the Cowell Press at UCSC. The other sizes of type were digital & printed from polymer plates. The illustrations are Donna's linoleum cuts and paper pulp pochoir images. The wood used for the binding is alder. The tree came from Kingfisher Flat, where Everson felled the tree described in his poem. The alder was cut and milled for this project by Big Creek Lumber. Peter and Donna Thomas made the paper, letterpress printed and handbound this book, in an edition of fifty copies. Thirty copies are bound as a unique wooden structure, and twenty copies are bound between wooden boards. An essay by Alan Campo and an artists' statement have been printed to accompany both bindings. This is copy number ... " -- Colophon. - Local Note:
