- Emory University first established a radio club in 1964, and, in the following year WEMO, Emory's first student-operated radio station, began operating on 560AM. At some point the station ceased operating, until 1983 when Emory students once again began broadcasting using the call sign WEMO. After several years of development, Emory University launched a modernized student-operated radio station that began broadcasting as WMRE on January 20, 1989. It was first broadcast on campus via 590AM, until the cables carrying the signal failed. WMRE then began broadcasting on Emory's cable system on channel 26. In 1998 the station also began broadcasting on the internet and eventually transitioned entirely to online streaming. In addition to broadcasting, students also created several publications over the years. In the late 1980s the radio station published <title>WMRE Air</title> magazine. In 2002, WMRE began publishing another magazine focusing on music, art, and culture, first under the title <title>Listen</title> and later renamed Frequency in 2007.
