- Charles Gerald Fraser, Jr. was born in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1925 to Caribbean immigrants Charles Gerald Fraser and Bernice Fraser (neeĢ Love). He attended the University of Wisconsin, Madison, where he worked as a reporter for the school newspaper and earned a bachelor's degree in economics in 1949. He then went on to receive a master's degree at the New School for Social Research (New York, New York). Fraser began his career as a journalist in 1952 at the Amsterdam News before taking a position with the New York Times in 1967, where he continued to work until 1991 when he took a position at the Earth News. C. Gerald Fraser died in 2015.
