- Summary:
- "The world's leading photographers contributed black-and-white images that transform into color (or reveal hidden layers underneath) when exposed to direct sunlight. The cover of this large-format board-bound book features intricately embroidered artwork that turns to color, and the issue itself arrives inside a white plastic case composed of the same light-sensitive material. Watch this issue magically transform as you hold it in your hands!" Publisher
"Summer 2009 seemed more colorful than usual, thanks to the boldly innovative Visionaire issue, Solar. Inside a sleek all-white case resided an all-white board-bound book featuring an all-white embroidered bird by Roe Ethridge. The book featured artworks by Alex Katz, Peter Lindbergh, Ryan McGinley, and David Sims--each printed using breakthrough color-changing inks. When viewed indoors or under artificial light, the issue, sponsored by Calvin Klein Collection, was completely stark in its black & whiteness. When exposed to direct sunlight, however, the artworks reacted to UV rays and bloomed into full color--and inspired actual items of clothing, too. Calvin Klein Collection's Francisco Costa and Italo Zucchelli produced women's and men's pieces, respectively, made of fabric dipped in the same color-changing inks. Even Yoko Ono was impressed. "I love experiments on the paper itself in publications," Ono says, looking back. "Visionaire is the only magazine I know of to make such far-out statements. Every issue is so daring and enjoyable. We all wait for the next one to come out. Bravo, Visionaire!""--Publisher's description - Language:
