- Biographical/Historical Note:
- Sheila Pree Bright (1967-) was born in Waycross, Georgia, to a military family and spent her formative years in Germany. She later moved back to the United States, settling in Atlanta after the 1996 Summer Olympics. She earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Missouri (Columbia) in 1998 and a Master of Fine Arts in Photography from Georgia State University (Atlanta) in 2003. She is an award-winning photographic artist, lecturer, documentary filmmaker, muralist, and author. Her photographs have been exhibited and are represented in the collections at the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture and the Library of Congress in Washington, DC; the High Museum of Art and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta, Georgia; the Saatchi Gallery (London, United Kingdom); Harvard Art Museums (Cambridge, Massachusetts); the Museum of Contemporary Photography (Chicago, Illinois); and the International Center of Photography (New York, New York).
